Court Appearance Of Attempted Murder Suspect Soto Continued

The attempted murder case of Canyon Country resident Raymundo Soto has been continued until March 25, 2013. Soto, 35, faces two felony counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon for an alleged stabbing incident on February 29, 2012. The pre-trial conference, which was scheduled for yesterday before the continuance, will be held in the Los Angeles Superior Court San Fernando Branch, Department G.

According to sheriff’s officials during the early evening of February 29, Daniel Muir, returned to his Canyon Country home after a year’s absence to find that his wife, Jessica Jackson, 30, was now living in the home with Soto. While Muir was gathering his belongings he was allegedly attacked by Soto with a knife. Muir suffered eight stab wounds but managed to escape and run to a neighbor’s home for help.

Authorities say Soto was also injured during the altercation and received self-inflicted stab wounds. Both men were transported by ambulance to Henry Mayo Hospital.

Soto was taken into custody last April and was found in possession of a firearm, which lead to additional misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a concealed firearm within city limits. Jackson was arrested on the same day as Soto, but the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office did not file charges.

Soto, who had been confined to a wheelchair, was ordered to appear in a special wheelchair-accessible courtroom in downtown Los Angeles last June, where he pleaded not guilty to all charges. In January of this year, he refused to leave his jail cell for a court appearance after he was deemed capable of attending court without the assistance of a wheelchair.

In a separate court case, the trial of two men charged with murder in a Santa Clarita street racing death has been continued until April 29. Colt Sean Doherty and Thomas Joseph Vensko face second degree murder charges in the crash that took the life of Dakota Demott.

On the night of January 10, Doherty’s Ford Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed on Sand Canyon Road, with Demott as his passenger. When Doherty entered a curve, he lost control of the car and collided with a large oak tree, the impact of which ejected Demott from the vehicle and threw him into a fence. Demott was declared dead at the scene.

Doherty, 19, and 20-year old Vensko, who was driving a separate car that contributed to the cause of the crash, were both charged with second degree murder.
