Court Upholds Convictions Of Evangelist Alamo

A federal appeals court upheld the convictions of Tony Alamo today. In 2009, the 76-year-old evangelist was found guilty of taking underage girls across state lines and coercing them into sex.

Alamo ran a religious group in Santa Clarita for many years. A Tony Alamo Christian Ministries still exists off Sierra Highway in Canyon Country.

Last year, Alamo was convicted on 10 counts of violating the Mann Act, which aims to stop women from being sold into prostitution.

At one point, Alamo traveled with an eight year-old girl, who calimed Alamo had forced her to enter into a spiritual marriage with him. Alamo had many “wives.”

With today’s ruling, Alamo will continue serving a 175-year prision sentence in Terre Haute, Indiana.
