From Friday to Sunday, 11 individuals were arrested on charges of possession of controlled substances, eight were arrested for driving under the influence and five were arrested for public drunkenness, according to arrest logs.

“We’ve seen an increase in recreational drug overdoses this past year, which is part of a nationwide overdose epidemic. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, in partnership with the city and county, is continuing to be proactive in arresting individuals found to be in possession of narcotics and to help them seek follow-up intervention programs through our station’s J-team, to assist in recovery,” said Capt. Robert Lewis of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The 24 arrested are a total of all of the arrests in the Santa Clarita Valley, including 20 from the Sheriff’s Department and four DUI arrests from the California Highway Patrol.

Among the two dozen arrested, three individuals were arrested during a morning patrol check at a Park and Ride on Golden Valley Road.

“While conducting a Sunday morning patrol check at a Park and Ride on Golden Valley Road in efforts to thwart any potential vehicle burglaries, deputies made contact with two men and a woman sitting in a car,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

As they approached the vehicle, one of the deputies saw that the man in the front passenger’s seat appeared to have a bag of heroin and methamphetamine sitting on his lap.

“Upon further investigation, deputies found needles, scales and packaging equipment consistent with narcotic sales within the vehicle,” Miller said.

The woman and one of the men were arrested on felony charges of narcotic sales, while the other man was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to officials.

  1. Hey CA you voted!!! Legalizing marijuana, lowering the penalty of hardcore drugs to only a misdemeanor and not holiding anyone criminally accountable what are you going to expect. Santa Clarita is no longer Awesme Town. Take the power away from law enforcement and the city being in between the San Fernando Valley and Antelope Valley is a recipe for disaster. Great job to the men and women of the sheriffs department, but too bad y’all can’t keep them behind bars. I’m sure they were out getting high and committing more thefts before this article was even published.
