Alyssa Arrant Allegedly Defrauds KHTS Home & Garden Show With Elaborate Credit Card Scheme

Charges have been filed with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station against Alyssa Arrant and her associate for having allegedly created an elaborate credit card scheme to steal $1,400 from KHTS Radio at their ninth annual KHTS Home & Garden show.

The two were representing a company called Healthmed, selling massage chairs manufactured by Golden Technology at the Central Park event on April 28 and 29, according to Station Co-Owner Carl Goldman.

A text message conversation between Carl Goldman and Alyssa Arrant.

The charges were filed with the Sheriff’s Station on June 5, after station accountants discovered payment discrepancies from the show.

The two accused, Arrant and her male associate, along with Arrant’s companion at the show, Justine Barboza, who also identified herself on social media as Justin Barboza, participated in the KHTS Home & Garden Show.  Arrant and Barboza were the sole representatives at their booth for both days of the show, Goldman said.

Neither woman registered any concern or complaint with KHTS management either during or after the show.

Arrant purchased corner VIP booth #301 on April 24,  for $1,400, just four days prior to the show, KHTS records show. She filled out a credit card form using her male associate’s name and credit card number.

“Alyssa told me that man was her boss,” Goldman said. “To verify, we looked them up on social media and saw they were friends. They signed our Home & Garden Show agreement while checking into the show. We assisted Alyssa Arrant and Justine Barboza in unloading their massage chairs the night prior to show. I swung by their booth several times during the show and asked both Alyssa Arrant and Justine Barboza how things were going. They said, ‘Fine,’ and thanked us for assisting them. Everything appeared to be going well for them. They never communicated any challenges to me or any of my staff.”

A month later, on June 2, KHTS received notice that the male associate was claiming the credit card charge that Arrant used for the KHTS Home and Garden Show was fraudulent. KHTS was told the male associate informed Visa there was no connection between him and Arrant.

The male associate tagged in a Facebook photo with Mike Arrant, Alyssa Arrant’s husband.

But a little digging on the internet revealed quite a different story, Goldman said. In addition to the social media connections checked on prior to the show, Goldman found that Arrant’s husband, Mike Arrant, was a friend of the man. Both appeared to be heavily involved in martial arts and are pictured together in numerous Facebook posts.

KHTS attempted to reach all three parties on several occasions. None returned phone calls, emails or Facebook messages.

All information, including screenshots of the Facebook postings, were turned over to Sheriff’s detectives on June 5.

“We’ve never had this happen in the 29 years we’ve owned KHTS Radio,” Goldman said. “When I spoke with other event organizers, they revealed similar fraudulent schemes have happened to them, particularly with vendors from outside the area.”

Arrant, whose Facebook profile lists her as Alyssa Rojas, and Barboza both claimed they were from Las Vegas, Goldman said. Their Facebook pages also state the pair are Las Vegas residents.

“I guess there’s always a first time for being a victim of fraud,” Goldman said. “We’ll be more careful in the future. If the man invovled wasn’t in on the hustle, I imagine he would have responded to our messages and the dispute could have easily been resolved.”
