Attempted Carjacking Suspect Caught By Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Deputies After Hiding In Storm Drain

An off duty Ventura County Sheriff’s deputy chased off a suspect attempting to steal a truck in Canyon Country on saturday night, and deputies with the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station found the suspect hiding in a storm drain later in the night.

The suspect, a male, was seen “trying to steal a truck,” said Lt. Derek Sabatini with the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station. “(The officer) chased the suspect into the wash but lost sight of him.

A containment area was set up by SCV Sheriff’s deputies at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Later in the evening, at approximately 7 p.m. a suspect was found and detained, hiding in a storm drain, said Sabatini.

He was identified as Josue Hernandez, a hispanic man, and was later that night arrested for attempted vehicle theft.
