A man allegedly forced a woman and a 1-year-old baby out of their vehicle in a parking lot in the 2100 block of White Lane in Bakersfield, according to a Bakersfield Police Department news release.

After a description of the vehicle was released to neighboring police agencies, the vehicle was spotted by CHP officers heading southbound on Highway 99.

CHP officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the alleged carjacker took off and led the officers on a pursuit through the Grapevine that lasted approximately 80 miles.

The pursuit came to an end on the southbound-side of I-5 at Lyons Avenue in Newhall, after the vehicle became disabled around 1 p.m., according to officials.

After a brief investigation, law enforcement learned that the alleged carjacker arrived in the Bakersfield area in a vehicle that was also stolen out of the Los Angeles area.

Edwardo Salas, 26, was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail on four felony counts: carjacking, possession of a stolen vehicle, recklessly evading a peace officer and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger.

Bail was set for $95,000.

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
