Christian Pacheco, 23, was arrested Saturday, November 4, after deputies patrolling near Mandan Street “spotted a man that they recognized as being a burglary suspect that was identified via surveillance video,” said Shirley Miller, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station public information officer.

Earlier this week, a business on the 27500 block of Sierra Highway was burglarized, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials. Law enforcement received surveillance tape from the business, recognized the suspect and made the arrest less than a mile from the crime scene.

“Deputies recognized him as Mr. Pacheco, and located him in a car behind the property where the arrest was made,” said Sgt. Mauriz of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “He was a transient living in his car.”

The deputies who made the arrest were not a part of any specialized burglary suppression operation that the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station occasionally runs, but were rather doing “proactive police work.”

“These deputies were just on patrol and they took it upon themselves to do a little proactive police work,” said Maurizi, “and they found their suspect.”

Deputies are not releasing information about what Pacheco allegedly stole as his case is still an open investigation, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.

Pacheco’s arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday at the San Fernando courthouse, according to officials. He has been charged with one count of burglary.

Pacheco’s bail has been set at $20,000.

  1. They just got lucky. It was perfect timing for them. They were entering the parking lot of some apartments and just so happened to see me walking by on a bike path early morning. And they never found me inside any car and I wasn’t a transient. Get your articles right next time.
