Due to recent concerns of vehicle burglaries, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies were conducting patrol checks in the parking lot of the Valencia Marketplace shopping center on The Old Road, when they noticed a bicyclist who appeared to be searching cars through their windows, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

As the deputies approached the unidentified man, he attempted to flee by riding between vehicles in the lot.

Upon catching up with the bicyclist and initiating a stop, deputies found a concealed dagger in the suspect’s waistband during their routine weapon pat down, Miller said.

In the process of his stop, the suspect informed deputies he had warrants for his arrest, which the deputies shortly confirmed.

The warrants in question included two $50,000 warrants for narcotics and a $35,000 warrant for trespassing.

The deputies also found the man in possession of multiple cell phones, tablets, counterfeit currency, heroin, methamphetamine and items related to the sale of narcotics.

The man was not identified by name, but was described as a male adult in his late 30’s, according to Miller.

The suspect was arrested on previous warrants, as well as on charges including narcotics sales, counterfeit currency and reasonable cause of receiving stolen property.

The U.S. Secret Service was informed of the counterfeit currency recovered, according to officials.

While the suspect was being booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, deputies received word from their colleagues in the field of a theft report from a victim whose RV was burglarized on The Old Road near Camping World.

Deputies quickly matched one of the reported stolen items with one of the items found in the apprehended suspect’s possession.

“We always encourage people to call in any theft they think they may have been a victim of,” said Miller. “A lot of times when it’s something smaller, like a phone charger, or when people don’t feel like they’ll get the item back, they don’t report it. But if they don’t report it, that suspect can’t be charged for those thefts.”

Detectives will continue an investigation and are seeking any victims who were possibly affected.

If you need to report a theft and the property stolen is valued at less than $950, it can be reported online here.

If the property is valued in excess of $950, you can contact the station at (661) 255-1211 to have a deputy file a report.
