Michael McGlothan, 54, of Canyon Country, was sentenced to 28 years and four months in state prison after pleading no contest to the crimes on Nov. 3, according to Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the Los Angeles D.A.’s Office.

He was sentenced for killing Ledarion Allen Jr., 21, of Lancaster, in a Canyon Country apartment in May of 2015, and also injuring Shatari Shene Cooks, 30, with a gunshot wound.

She was reportedly in stable condition the day after the shooting, which took place on the 25700 block of Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita.

The suspect was caught less than a month later when he was stopped near a highway toll booth on the New York State Thruway in western New York, according to a statement from the police department’s Buffalo office.

He was initially charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. He was being held in lieu of $3 million bail.
