Jessica Paige Greenback, 25, pleaded “no contest” to charges stemming from her suspected involvement in the 2015 murder of her brother in their Canyon Country home. A no contest plea is, for practical purposes, the same as a guilty plea. The defendant admits no guilt, but sentencing can move forward.

However, a separate hearing to determine her sanity at the time of the killing was later requested, according to officials.

“She was found not guilty by reason of insanity at the time of the crime,” said Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the District Attorney’s office.

Greenback allegedly shot her 28-year-old brother and her father in the home. A third person, James Gorman, was allegedly shot at by Jessica Greenback, but not injured, Sheriff’s officials said.

“She killed her brother and shot her dad, and she tried to kill another individual in the house, but he was not hurt,” said Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau in a previous KHTS article.

Johnnie Greenback, the suspect’s brother, died at a local hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head at the Danielson home.

Persons judged by the court to be guilty of a crime, but not guilty because they were insane at the time of the crime are committed to a state hospital for treatment for a period equal to the maximum sentence for their most serious offense, according to the California penal code.

“The ultimate goal is for the patient to reintegrate into the community with an increased awareness of their role within society and to take responsibility for personal and public safety,” reads the code. “The focus of treatment for this population involves helping the patient development insight into their mental illness and how the symptoms of mental illness led to the commission of a crime.”

Greenback was sentenced to Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino, CA for rehabilitation.

  1. Its all wrong. People are dead because of her, sane or not. Let her be rehabilitated with a life sentence in maximum security prison. She doesn’t need “insight into her mental illness and how it led to the crime”. Soon she will be out, living next door to one of us.

    • That fact that any of you people can commit and say she deserves life in prison. This girls Jessica was a friend of mine She killed her brother by accident Her brother stepped in front of the gun when she was trying to kill her dad. Why you ask ? Her dad use to rape her as a little girl and grew with that pain in scares, nobody knows that. She wanted to kill her dad because she found out he was raping and doing the same thing to her little sister I don’t care what anybody says. Jessica was a loving and caring girl. I don’t blame her for what she did after what has been done to her and her little sister. I just wish you could report the real story not this bs !!

      • She was my friend too

      • Johnnie was MY friend. And I have you know that HE did NOT deserve this. If living with Sunny was so f*****g bad, why did Jessica CHOOSE to live with them?? or are you going to say she didn’t have a choice in that?! Jessica has ALWAYS been a problematic, woe is me, attention seeker. Johnnie didn’t deserve to die, and Sunny didn’t deserve to be shot or forced to bury two of his children. Can you imagine going to court to be there for your daughter who not only shot you but killed your other child, IN FRONT OF your baby?!!! tfoh

  2. I’m no expert in the field, and I could be wrong…but I believe she will be sent a mental facility to serve her time rather than a prison. I also think that she would have to serve a very lengthy amount of time there and have to go through board reviews to test to she if she can be released back into society without being a threat. Sentencing to mental facilities is sometimes many years before you even get your first board review by the staff Doctors.
That being said, it does take away from the crime she committed and the live she cut short. Lets hope she didn’t play the system and won, just to avoid being sentenced to life.

Hometown Station…Is there any additional information? Information regarding what type of treatment or sentencing she has been given? Or is she free to go after completion of a year worth of treatment?
