The threats stem from a domestic dispute over the weekend, said Steve Doyle, Superintendent for the Castaic Union School District.

“We found out Monday that he had made a threat that included potentially coming down and being a threat at the school,” said Doyle. “We immediately alerted law enforcement.”

Although they would later find out that law enforcement officials had already taken the suspect into custody, school administrators wanted to ensure the absolute safety of their students and staff.

“When we first heard, we had hired a private security company to come down and assess the situation,” said Doyle. “We’re not going to take that risk.”

Officials said after they had ensured the safety of those at the school and had relayed all the information they could to detectives, they contacted the parents of the students.

A copy of the email sent to Castaic Elementary School parents about the incident involving a potential threat to the school.

“We had sent out an email on our school messenger system, informing parents about the situation,” said Doyle. “We wanted to make sure that we had all our facts straight, but wanted to make sure parents knew.”

In the email, school officials detailed the situation and also stated that they were taking further precautions, in addition to the private security that they had already hired.

“Please understand that we may not offer their names due to strict legal obligations to protect privacy,” said Doyle in the email sent over the school’s messenger system. “At this time, we are taking action to file a temporary restraining order against the perpetrator, to ensure that he may not come on or near our school.”

Additionally, the email said the private security team is scheduled to remain on campus for the remainder of the week, and that if parents have any concerns they are encouraged to reach out directly to the superintendent.

“Again, the perpetrator is in custody, but I felt their presence would help to alleviate any concerns,” said Doyle’s email. “Please let me know if you have any questions. I can be reached directly at (661) 257-4500 ext. 1501.”

  1. This article is lacking in proper reporting. There should be a picture of the perpetrator posted so everyone who has a child at the school (or who has two, like me) knows what this guy looks like and can call authorities if he should set foot near the school. Why protect him? He gave up his rights when he said that he “would shoot up the school”. .his words.
