Newly hired eighth grade teacher, Reuben Sherr, presented himself at Castaic Middle School (CMS) on Monday to set up his classroom for the first day of school. But, according to school district administrators, this was the last time that Sherr was seen.

“At this time, we have no details regarding his whereabouts,” said an email sent to CMS parents from Superintendent Steve Doyle. “He did not attend the all-staff welcome back breakfast or teachers’ professional development held on Tuesday and Wednesday, so we grew deeply concerned and tried to reach him.”

It was after reaching out to him, and his emergency contacts, that district officials made the decision to reach out to law enforcement, who then advised them to file a missing persons report.

“It is a worrisome situation, indeed, and I hope that you will join me in wishing the best for Mr. Sherr and that we hear good news about his well-being soon,” said Doyle. “As the Sheriff tends to the search, our District and Principal Brauneisen are focused on securing a long-term substitute teacher to ensure our students have a smooth launch to their new school year.”

Doyle confirmed that while the search for Sherr continues, the district and CMS Principal Bob Brauneisen will begin the search for a long-term substitute for the missing teacher’s class.

Those with any information regarding Mr. Sherr are encouraged to reach out to the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.
