UPDATE Adds age of driver
California Highway Patrol officers caught up with a stolen vehicle Monday morning, but it was too late to save the car.

Officers responded to a car down the side of the embankment at near the Parker Road off-ramp on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Castaic around 1:30 a.m. Monday.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies could not release the ID of the suspect because she was only 15 years old, officials said.
Officers believe the girl fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed the late-model Chevy Cruze she was driving.
She was able to escape from the car without significant injury, but the car caught fire shortly after the crash, and was completely destroyed.
Upon arriving on scene and investigating the crash, officers discovered the car was reported stolen to the Pittsburgh, Calif., Police Department (a Contra Costa County in the East Bay region).
The woman was being arrested on a stolen vehicle charge at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station as of this story’s publication.
Fire official received call at 1:38 a.m., and we were in scene by 1:50 a.m.
A quarter-acre fire resulted from the crash, which was quickly extinguished by fire officials.
The suspect was transported to the hospital for medical attention for minor injuries.
