Zero people were arrested and nobody was found to be driving under the influence, said Officer John Lutz of the Newhall CHP station.

The checkpoint was conducted at the intersection of The Old Road and Constitution Avenue in Stevenson Ranch, he said. The location was set to be within the Santa Clarita Valley but outside city of Santa Clarita limits.

Six people were arrested for DUI’s this past weekend, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.

The goal of the DUI Checkpoint is to create awareness among the motoring public, to deter people from driving under the influence, and to keep the streets safe for all.

Even though arrest totals do not rise dramatically, the psychological influence a checkpoint has on the motoring public is invaluable, according to a CHP statement.

Sobriety checkpoints are conducted in accordance to the guidelines for checkpoint operations outlined in the Supreme Court decision, Ingersol vs. Palmer.
