A head-on collision killed a woman and hospitalized a man with non-life-threatening injuries on Sierra Highway around 3:30 a.m.

Monique Garcia, 23 of Castaic, was identified as the victim, according to the coroner’s office.

Alcohol is being investigated as a possible factor in the crash. The cause is still under investigation.

A 2005 silver Nissan Sentra heading northbound on Sierra Highway, north of Davenport Road, crossed the double-yellow lines and went into a southbound lane on Sierra Highway, directly into the path of a 2015 Dodge Dart.

The driver of the Dart was unable to avoid the Sentra, and the vehicles collided.

The driver of the Sentra sustained fatal injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.

The Dart’s driver was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Sierra Highway was closed from 3:30-7:41 a.m. Wednesday due to the collision investigation and cleanup.
