Shortly after 11 a.m., emergency responders received a report of a man dangling over the side of an overpass, prompting CHP officials to issue a Sig Alert and shut down traffic on the 14 freeway in both directions.

Palmdale Station Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and were able to make contact with the individual and talk him back from the ledge, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.

“He then got down and ran off into the desert,” LACoFD Supervisor Bernard Peters said. Deputies then began pursuing the individual on foot.

As of 1:40 p.m. on Monday, the suspect has not yet been apprehended by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies, according to Lt. Sanchez of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

All lanes were reopened and the Sig Alert was lifted just before noon on Monday, according to CHP reports.
