KHTS News spoke with the Lyft driver, Michael Mitchell, a Burbank resident, who claimed to have picked the man up from near Panorama High School.
Over was reportedly picked up around 3:20 p.m. and then dropped off at gun club at approximately 4 p.m., Mitchell said.
“He was a great guy and we had a great conversation,” Mitchell said. “The only thing that he had mentioned that was out of the ordinary he said, was (at one point in the conversation), ‘Oh, if I make it past 21,” Mitchell said, adding that nothing from the tone of their conversation gave Mitchell any indication of mental distress.
The driver, who said he also taught at a local high school and was driving after school for part-time money, said he’d been “re-hashing the conversation,” since he saw the death on the news to see if there was any signs he missed.
Deputies received the call regarding a gunshot victim at around 9 p.m., which is when the range closes on Wednesday to Friday, according to its website.
Homicide officials were initially called to the scene to a report of a body found around closing time at the range, according to Sheriff’s Department officials said.
It’s the second such shooting at the Newhall gun club this year. A Lancaster man killed himself in January.
