Cina, 21, of Canyon Country appeared in court during a phase of the pre-trial process known as a prelim setting, where a judge decides when her case will have a preliminary hearing.

Prosecutors can also use the prelim setting to negotiate a plea deal with defendants, with judges extending the prelim setting phase while these talks happen. Cina’s prelim setting was continued to April 18.

Cina is facing one felony count each of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury and driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol content causing injury, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Investigators believe she is responsible for an Oct. 6 fatal crash on Golden Valley Road that killed Katie Evans, a mother of six who was returning home after visiting her two youngest, twin daughters who were born prematurely at the UCLA Intensive Care Unit.

Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toxicology reports indicate Cina had a blood alcohol content of .21 at the time of the crash, almost three times the legal limit of .08.

Evans leaves behind her husband and six children: four boys, ages 12, 11, 9 and 2, as well as the twin girls. Her husband, Jacob Evans, partnered with KHTS in December to create pair of drunk driving PSA videos.

  1. Putting this young woman in prison will not bring back the young mother of 6 children that she killed.
Golden Valley Road is a death trap due to the poorly designed road and irresponsible drivers like Cina.

    • Ken, while you are correct in that putting this woman in prison will not bring back the mother, there has to be a consequence for this girl’s actions.

I travel on Golden Valley on a daily basis. If you or anyone else for that matter drive it in a safe and responsible manner, there is nothing unsafe about this road. The design of the road doesn’t cause you or anyone else to drive faster than the posted speed limit, it is as you mentioned…irresponsible drivers and their actions that make this road dangerous.

  2. She deserves to have the book thrown at her, there is no excuse for drinking and driving to many other options UBER, LYFT etc. It could have been any of us or our children killed by her selfish decision. No excuse for what she did.
