Michael Barela, 54, was convicted last month after a jury found he planned and attempted to commit a murder outside the JJ’s Bar and Grill in Valencia in February 2015.
“He was sentenced yesterday 14 years to life in state prison,” said Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office. “He was convicted by a jury of attempted murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon — a knife.”
Deputies responded Feb. 25, 2015, to an assault with a deadly weapon call, where a male was attempting to stab numerous people with a knife. Deputies arrived and immediately detained the suspect, later identified as Barela.
“It involves a stabbing between two friends,” Assistant District Attorney Kaveh Faturechi, who is prosecuting the case, said to KHTS in a previous story.

A witness close to the scene described a man with a knife walking around the restaurant and another man reportedly covered in blood.
The male victim had been stabbed numerous times in the upper body, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.
