An alleged Canyon Country murder and shooting suspect who was arrested in New York in June pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Tuesday, District Attorney officials said.

Michael McGlothan, 51, of Santa Clarita, was arrested without incident Monday, June 1 at about 4 p.m. near a highway toll booth on the New York State Thruway in western New York, according to a statement from the police department’s Buffalo office.
McGlothan allegedly shot and killed Ledarion Allen Jr., 21, and the wounded Allen’s girlfriend, Shatari Shene Cooks, who was treated for a gunshot wound at a local hospital in the 25700 block of Sierra Highway.
McGlothan is due back in court on Oct. 1 for a preliminary hearing.
McGlothan was arraigned in the Town of Dunkirk Court and taken to the Chautaugua County Jail before his extradition hearing, the statement said.
On May 6, McGlothan, also known as Michael Batiste, allegedly shot and killed Allen Jr. and wounded Cooks, who was treated for a gunshot wound at a local hospital.
McGlothan is being held on $3,030,000 bail.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to two reported shootings Wednesday, May 6, one that left a man dead in Canyon Country, officials said.
McGlothan was wanted for questioning in connection with the crime.
Sheriff’s Department officials reported Wednesday, May 6 evening that one victim was killed and another wounded in that shooting. One man was reportedly confirmed dead at the scene.
Fire officials confirmed there were two reported shooting victims at the 25700 block of Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita. They received the call at 4:24 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.
Investigators were still on scene processing evidence as of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 7 according to Lt. Eddie Hernandez of the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau.
