A man charged with murder and attempted murder of a Lancaster man and a Canyon Country woman in May last year is expected back in court to formally face charges in August.

Michael Joe McGlothan, 53, of Canyon Country, was arrested June 1, 2015, after a manhunt resulted in McGlothan, who also goes by Michael Batiste, being tracked down to a highway toll booth on the New York State Thruway in western New York.
He’s due back in court for a readiness hearing Aug. 25, with a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Aug. 29.
McGlothan allegedly shot and killed Ledarion Allen Jr., 21, and then wounded, Shatari Shene Cooks, who was treated for a gunshot wound at a local hospital in the 25700 block of Sierra Highway on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
Cooks has survived her injuries, according to officials.
McGlothan had been dating Cooks prior to the shooting, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
Homicide detectives investigating the case did not release any additional information regarding the shooting as the suspect has yet to face a preliminary hearing and then formal arraignment.
At the preliminary hearing, the evidence against the suspect is formally presented a judge will then decide whether there’s enough evidence to stand trial.
Officials confirmed there were two reported shooting victims at the 25700 block of Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita. They received the call at 4:24 p.m., officials said.
McGlothan was transferred to Sheriff’s Department custody July 22, according to the Sheriff’s Department website.
He’s being held in lieu $3,030,000 bail.
