Bishoy Fahmy, 27, was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department in February 2017 on a warrant on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a firearm and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

Officials alleged at the time that Fahmy shot a friend multiple times in Van Nuys after an argument. The victim survived his gunshot wounds, and Fahmy was later arrested at his Castaic home.

“Van Nuys-area officers, along with LAPD Metropolitan (Division) officers, brought the suspect in without incident,” according to LAPD spokesman Mike Lopez.

Fahmy will return to the courtroom June 1 for a continuation of his preliminary hearing. The number of continuations in the hearing was not immediately available, but officials said the case has been processing for over a year.

“It’s been going on since 2017,” Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said.

Fahmy has a record of arrests — in July 2012, SCV News reported he was arrested on suspicion of two felony counts: assault with a deadly weapon and illegal possession of an assault weapon.

Fahmy allegedly brandished a loaded AK-47 at a woman who parked her car in front of his residence on Castaic Oak Lane. The woman and her husband retreated into their nearby home and alerted the police.

In 2014, the L.A. Times reported an investigation into two Irvine burglaries that also led authorities to Fahmy.

Witnesses heard glass breaking and saw a man emerge from the home and enter a nearby vehicle. Witnesses recorded the vehicle’s plates and called authorities.

Fahmy was arrested after leaving a Los Angeles County pawn shop, and investigators were able to recover jewelry, as well as other valuables that were believed to have been taken from homes.

Upon searching Fahmy’s residence, two loaded firearms were recovered, despite Fahmy still being on probation from his 2012 weapons charge.
