“Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9,” said Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office. “On Dec. 5 they had set up the date for the preliminary trial to begin.”

Dauer-Hewitt was the former president of the Santa Clarita Valley chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of the Military, and she also started a Facebook page dedicated to the search for missing Santa Clarita resident William Cierzan, called “Missing: William Cierzan, 58, Santa Clarita, CA.”

Deputies have confirmed that the investigation involved activity associated with the nonprofit, which is an “organization for mothers who have children serving of who have served,” according to its website.

Statements from law enforcement officials, the D.A. and court requests indicate the alleged theft ranged from $2,000 to $7,000, an amount that is being disputed by the defense.

She was arrested March 21, 2017 on a charge of 487(a): ”When the money, labor, or real or personal property taken is of a value exceeding ($950),” according to county records.

Dauer-Hewitt was released on $20,000 bail shortly after her arrest.

However, Dauer-Hewitt has remained active on local Facebook pages, according to screenshots obtained by KHTS. In one post she had praised the decision for President to bar transgender individuals from enlisting in the military, stating that the cost of transitional surgery could cost the US Military “upwards of $100,000.”
