“On March 2, Lockhart is scheduled to be in a preliminary setting,” said Sarah Ardalani, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Lockhart was charged with three counts of second-degree murder and four counts of reckless driving causing injury after a Feb. 27 collision that killed Santa Clarita residents Brian Lewandowski, 18 and Michelle Littlefield, 19; as well as UPS driver Scott Treadway, 52.

Investigators believe Lockhart was taking place in a street race which caused Treadway to swerve in his UPS truck, going airborne and crashing over the center median, shearing the top off of the Nissan in which Littlefield and Lewandowski were passengers.

Four other people were seriously injured in the crash.

Because of the complex nature of the crash, and the fact that it was possibly a result of street racing, the California Highway Patrol’s MAIT team (a Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team that specializes in crash investigation) is still investigating. The results of their investigation have not been made public.

Lockhart could face life in prison if convicted.
