Alexus Chad Corral, 27, of Canyon Country, is accused of being intoxicated during the crash that killed Dylan Tyler Zimmerman, a 20-year-old Valencia man Feb. 14, 2014.
The crash took place on Copperhill Drive approximately 3:55 p.m., involving Zimmerman, who was driving a black Honda Civic, and Corral, who was driving a white Ford Fusion, according to deputies.
At a preliminary hearing, the judge will weigh the evidence facing the defendant and then decide if there’s enough to warrant a trial.
Detectives investigated numerous factors in this case including possible driver intoxication, the speed the vehicles were traveling at when this collision occurred, and both drivers’ driving history.
After an extensive investigation, Corral was arrested in June, several months after the crash.
If convicted, Corral faces a maximum penalty of 15-to-life in state prison, according to District Attorney’s Office officials.
He’s due back in court March 6.
