Hourslong Newhall Standoff Ends With Suspect In Custody

A suspect wanted for car theft, assaulting an officer and an outstanding warrant is in custody after an hourslong Monday night standoff in Newhall.

The suspect, Jesse Tucker, 30, of Newhall, was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m. at a house on the 25200 block of Vermont Drive.

Sheriff’s officials reported a suspect was barricaded in a home in the area around 8 p.m. Monday.

Tucker is a suspect in a car theft the took place in Stevenson Ranch on Monday morning. That incident led to a confrontation with deputies, who reportedly found Tucker in a stolen white Ford F-150.

The truck was reported stolen by gardeners who noticed the truck was taken while they were landscaping a property.

Sheriff’s officials believed Tucker was trying to sell stolen gardening equipment from the truck when a deputy found him around the 21000 block of Oakriver Lane in Newhall around 9 a.m.

Deputies established a containment of the area, but were not able to locate Tucker.

The Vermont Drive home was evacuated Monday evening as a Sheriff’s Department helicopter assisted numerous deputies who again established a containment of the area on suspicion Tucker was inside.

Tucker is expected to be booked for an assault with a deadly weapon charge.

Tucker had an outstanding warrant for his arrest at the time of the alleged car theft, officials said.

He is currently being held without bail at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

He was convicted of vandalism in October 2003, and then again in January 2004. He was convicted of narcotics possession in January 2006, according to court records available online. He was convicted again of the same charge in March 2006.

In August 2006, he was convicted for illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, to wit, hypodermic needles. In August 2009, he was convicted of grand theft auto in December 2009.

He was convicted of felony theft in January 2012. He was convicted of driving without a license and evading arrested in June 2012.

He served six months in jail for the most recent charges, according to Sheriff’s Department records. He had a warrant out for his arrest at the time of his alleged crimes Monday morning.
