Sean McClelland, 47, saw his case continued Wednesday, which involved an accusation that he took his parents at knifepoint with a machete, then broke his back after he drove a pickup truck off a cliff.

The truck traveled several hundred feet down an embankment, with McClelland breaking his back in the process, which has been part of the delay in McClelland facing justice this time around. He has a lengthy criminal record and numerous charges, according to Sheriff’s Department records.

McClelland drive off of the cliff with his dad, who was also injured in the crash, shortly after letting his mom out of the vehicle.

His case is now back from Department 95, which handles court cases for suspects who are deemed not able to assist in their own defense due to mental health concerns. He was deemed fit for trial, and is now facing six counts in connection with the incident.

The prosecution has yet to present all of the evidence against McClelland, which is expected to happen at an upcoming preliminary hearing.

He’s due back in court November 16 to face another scheduling date for that hearing.

He’s currently being held in lieu of $1.2 million bail.
