Michael Barela, 54, was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted premeditated murder just one day after jury deliberations began.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a report of a stabbing just after 9 p.m. on Feb. 25, 2015 on the 25800 block of Tournament Road, according to Lt Moulder.
A witness described a man with a knife walking around JJ’s Bar and Grill and another man covered in blood.
Barela was reportedly being restrained by patrons at the bar when deputies arrived, according to another witness.
The victim — who was transported to a local hospital — was a friend of Barela’s, according to Assistant District Attorney Kaveh Faturechi, who prosecuted the case.
The suspect claimed he was intoxicated during the fight, which Faturechi called an “incomplete” defense.
Barela is due back in court for sentencing on July 7, when he could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
