Ismael Soto, 36, is due back for sentencing Feb. 4 on two counts of misdemeanor battery and second degree robbery.

Soto is expected to get one year in Los Angeles County jail and a five-year suspended sentence, in addition to three years of formal probation when he’s sentenced next month, according to a court official.

If Soto violates his probation after his jail release, he becomes eligible for a five-year state prison sentence, officials said.

He was also ordered to make restitution for his crimes, according to Ricardo Santiago, spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office.

Soto’s case drew media attention because his identification was left behind at the scene of the crime, prompting Sheriff’s Department officials to broadcast a picture of their suspected purse thief through various  media outlets and social media.

He was arrested shortly after the alleged crime by Santa Clarita Valley deputies.

He’s being held at Pitchess Detention Center in lieu of $90,000 bail.
