Jessica Paige Greenback, 25, pleaded ‘no contest’ to charges stemming from her suspected responsibility in the 2015 murder of her brother in their Canyon Country home in October.

But a hearing to determine her sanity at the time of the killing was requested, according to officials.

On Thursday, that hearing began, with experts attempting to determine if she was mentally fit when the murder occurred.

Greenback allegedly shot her 28-year-old brother and her father in the home, Sheriff’s officials said.

“She killed her brother and shot her dad, and she tried to kill another individual in the house, but he was not hurt,” said Lt. John Corina of the Homicide Bureau of the Sheriff’s Department, in a previous KHTS article.

Greenback’s father was grazed by a bullet, according to officials.

A third person, James Gorman, was allegedly shot at by Jessica Greenback, but not injured.

Johnnie Greenback, the suspect’s brother, died at a local hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head at the Danielson home.

Greenback will return to court Jan. 8 for a continuation of the sanity hearing. If she is found to have been sane at the time of the murder, her trial will begin in 2018.
