Santa Clarita Business Owner Suspected Of Posing As Swami Pleads No Contest To Sexual Battery Charge

A Santa Clarita business owner who allegedly posed as a swami, or Hindu monk, and claimed to perform healing rituals on several women plead no contest Tuesday to one felony count of sexual battery by fraud.

Gokula Nanda, 62, of West Hills, is facing 90 days in county jail, five years formal probation and sex offender registration, according to Ricardo Santiago, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

Nanda was ordered to stand trial on Dec. 4, 2015 on charges that he sexually assaulted three women, including six counts of sexual battery by fraud, three counts of sexual penetration by foreign object and two counts of sexual battery, officials said.

The alleged abuse occurred at various locations, including Nanda’s Eastern medicine store in Santa Clarita and a park in Torrance between April 2011 and April 2015, according to testimony at a preliminary hearing.

Nanda is scheduled for sentencing on May 11, Santiago said.
