Deputies were patrolling in two different areas of Santa Clarita early Tuesday morning, and discovered individuals found to be in possession of counterfeit money, and equipment that is used in the production of counterfeit currency, said Sheriff’s officials.
The first incident occurred just after midnight on the 24800 block of Pico Canyon Road, Stevenson Ranch.
“Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with an expired registration, and discovered that the driver was driving on a suspended license,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the SCV station. “Upon further inspection of the vehicle, deputies found mail and checkbooks in different people’s names, narcotics, narcotics paraphernalia, counterfeit bills, and equipment used in the production of counterfeit currency.”
The driver, Kristina Zacharia, 33, of Santa Clarita, was arrested on multiple charges, said officials.
The second incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Mammoth Lane in Canyon Country. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle, and found that the occupants, two women from North Hollywood, were in possession of counterfeit bills and equipment used in the production of counterfeit currency.
Deputies learned that one of the women was on active probation for narcotics and had a “no bail” felony warrant for her arrest. Erica Romero, 36, and Raquel Torres, 41, were arrested on felony charges. They were transported and booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The U.S. Secret Service was notified of the counterfeiting arrests and an agent responded to meet with deputies, said officials.
