John Cahill, 52, of the 31000 block of Valdito Place, called the station at 4:48 p.m., according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

“He said there was a shooting and he gave the address of the residence,” said Lt. Bryan Aguilera.

Deputies approached the suspect at 5:03 p.m., he said, taking caution to make sure the suspect was not still a threat given the nature of the call.

The victim, who was not identified by officials, was in surgery at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital as of 8:31 p.m. The victim’s exact status is not known, but he’s expected to survive his injuries.

The status of the charges will be evaluated pending the outcome of the medical procedures, according to officials.

Cahill is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, arrested for an assault with a deadly weapon charge.
