Deputies patrolling the Gorman area conducted a traffic stop and discovered approximately 2600 bindals of cocaine in the suspect’s vehicle, according to officials.

“We hopefully saved someone from overdosing or death by keeping these drugs off the street,” said Cpt. Robert Lewis, who leads the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

After a drug bust is made, detectives conduct investigations to determine where the drugs are from. But despite the large quantity in the car, officials are still unsure of its origin.

“It is unclear where the cocaine came from, and where it was going,” Lewis said.

In the last several months, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has stationed additional patrol officers in Gorman looking for crime that could be headed down from the Bakersfield area, according to officials.

“Close to about 30 percent of suspects and individuals arrested by the Santa Clarita Station were suspects or individuals on parole coming down from the Bakersfield area,” Lewis said.

After reviewing the statistics, Lewis, along with two lieutenants from the station, decided on adding more patrols deputies in the Gorman area.

“For the last four months, three deputies have been patrolling Gorman during the night shift looking for crime, and a fourth deputy will be added,” he said after Thursday’s arrest.

Lewis urged any Santa Clarita Valley residents who believe they have witnessed a crime to contact the sheriff’s station by calling 9-1-1 or the station’s non-emergency line: 661-255-1121.

“Fifty percent of all arrested made by Santa Clarita Valley deputies come from tips by the community,” Lewis said.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
