Detectives Investigate Reported Dead Body In Canyon Country

Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man in the Canyon Country area, officials reported Monday.

Detectives Investigate Reported Dead Body In Canyon Country-1Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives responded to the 27000 block of Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita around 8:20 a.m. Monday, according to an LASD Nixle. A male adult was found dead at the scene and a suspect has not be identified.

“This morning a woman came home and she had been gone for the weekend,” said Lt. John Corina with the LASD Homicide Bureau. “She came home to find her husband appeared to be deceased on the living room floor. The man has a gunshot wound to the chest and detectives are working to determine if it was self-inflicted or if someone shot him.”

The 50-year-old man was last seen around 7 p.m. Saturday night, Corina said. Detectives are continuing to conduct interviews with anyone who might have seen the man.  A criminalist is also on the way to help detectives identify if the incident is a homicide or a suicide.

Detectives Investigate Reported Dead Body In Canyon Country-2It looks like the victim has had a couple suicide attempts,” Corina said, adding that the incident didn’t appear to be a robbery and there was no sign of a struggle.  A firearm consistent with the victim’s wound was found at the scene.

“There’s a lot going on here,” Corina said. “We have to find out what’s been going on in his life.”
