A confrontation that erupted into gunfire Thursday night is being investigated as a gang-related shooting, detectives said Friday.

Shortly before midnight, a suspected gang member approached another suspected gang member and the two exchanged words, on the 24000 block of Railroad Avenue.
At some point, the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot the victim one time. The bullet grazed the victim’s chest and arm, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
The suspect fled south on Newhall Avenue. No additional information is being released at this time per station officials.
Fire officials confirmed the dispatch for a medical transport from a residence located near 14th Street and Newhall Avenue around 12:04 a.m. Officials were on scene at 12:06 a.m. to treat an adult male for a gunshot wound. The victim was inside the residence. The victim was transported to the hospital by 12:16 a.m. per fire officials.
Detectives are in the process of gathering evidence and investigating the incident, and did not reveal the identity of the suspect or the victim at this time.
