UPDATE: Detectives Investigating Report Of Sexual Assault; Suspect Arrested

Updates with status of investigation, name of suspect, location of assault

Sheriff’s Station officials are investigating a sexual assault that reportedly took place  investigation is underway, and that a suspect has been arrested.

Christian Perez, 21, of Canyon Country, whose occupation was listed as “self-employed,” was arrested in connection with the allegation, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.

The man was taken into custody at College of the Canyons’ Valencia campus on Thursday night, but officials could not confirm the case’s connection to the campus at this time.

He was released in lieu of a $100,000 bail at 12:50 p.m. Friday, officials said.

“(The allegation) was two acquaintances that knew each other,” said Sgt. Hudson of the Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Unit. The two were out socializing when the alleged attack occurred, he said.

The assault allegedly occurred in the Angeles National Forest, off Bouquet Canyon Road, north of Santa Clarita city limits, Hudson said.

The two were not believed to be involved in a relationship at the time of the alleged assault, but the suspect and victim knew each other, he said.

Station officials confirmed the victim who filed the report is a woman, but did not confirm whether the suspect or the victim was a student.

Detectives could not release much information at this point, noting the investigation was ongoing.

Station officials said the alleged attack did not occur on campus; however, officials would not release the approximate time or location, only confirming the report was on campus “Thursday evening.”

Witnesses reported deputies on campus around 6 p.m. regarding an investigation.

A sexual assault was reported on the campus back in August. However, in that report, the District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges citing a lack of evidence.
