On June 13 around 8:15 a.m., security guards in a complex in the 24500 block of Town Center Drive in Valencia discovered two people sleeping in the patio area of a vacant apartment, according to Shirley Miller, public information officer for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Tyler Scott Vest, 23, of Valencia, was placed under a citizen’s arrest and booked by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies for the misdemeanor charge of trespassing.

Vest’s companion, Kylie Stringer, 27, of Canyon Country, was also arrested for misdemeanor trespassing during the incident, and is facing additional charges of possession of heroin and possession of paraphernalia for narcotics discovered by deputies when they searched her, Miller said.

Both suspects were released around 2 p.m. the same day, with Vest’s bail amount set at $250 and Stringer’s at $1000, arrest records show.

While Stringer was previously sentenced in March to three years summary probation for one misdemeanor count of cruelty to an animal, Vest received one year in county jail and three years formal probation in April for the same charge, in addition to one felony count of possession for sale of a controlled substance, heroin.

He was released early based on what’s known as “custody credits,” according to Ricardo Santiago, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Because Vest remained in custody from the time of his arrest to his sentencing, he received credit for 204 days in custody at the time of his release, Santiago said. The exact date he was released from jail was not disclosed.

Vest allegedly has a history of drug-related criminal behavior, with five arrests and numerous parole violation hearings documented since July 2014.

On July 8, 2014, Vest was charged for the first time with one misdemeanor count of possession of heroin, to which he pleaded no contest. He was sentenced Oct. 1, 2014 to three years formal probation and 182 days in county jail, Santiago said.

Just one month later, Vest was ordered to appear at a bench warrant hearing on the same case, in addition to several related parole violation hearings as recent as April 20, 2016. The outcomes of these hearings were not immediately available on Friday.

Then on Jan. 20, 2015, Vest pleaded no contest to possession of an injection or ingestion device, and was sentenced the same day to 12 months summary probation.

Several parole violation hearings were also held in connection with the case, with the last hearing as recent as May 4, 2016, Santiago said.

The date of Vest’s next court appearance in relation to his most recent arrest has not yet been set.

Stringer’s next court date is scheduled for Sept. 13 at the Santa Clarita Courthouse.
