Sal Lopez, 27, of Los Angeles, was arrested early Monday morning after leading Los Angeles Police Department and CHP officers on a chase that began in the West Los Angeles area, and ended when the suspect collided with yellow sand-filled barrels and then rolled into an LAPD patrol vehicle on the SR-14 N near Sand Canyon Rd.

At approximately 8:22 p.m., LAPD officers began pursuing a stolen vehicle headed north on Interstate 405. CHP officers took over the pursuit around 9 p.m. as the vehicle continued to head north towards the 118 freeway.

Lopez was initially transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for precautionary reasons, before being taken to the LAPD Southwest Division station for booking.

Lopez is currently being held on $85,000 bail.
