After a Haskell Canyon restaurant burglary occurred at approximately 2 a.m. Saturday morning, deputies conducting a routine traffic stop across town noticed the cash register in the back of vehicle.

“Deputies around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning responded to a burglary alarm on the 28400 block of Haskell Cyn Rd.,” said Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station. “When deputies arrived, they saw a window smashed and upon further investigation they learned the suspects broke the window and took the restaurant’s cash register and tip jar.”

Miller said the events that transpired during the robbery and descriptions of the suspects were discovered upon review of the restaurant’s video surveillance footage.

“At the same time as deputies (were) finishing the paperwork for the Saugus restaurant burglary, deputies, in another part of Santa Clarita, stopped a vehicle during a routine traffic stop,” said Miller. “During that traffic stop, deputies recovered a cash register and burglary tools from the vehicle.”

Deputies quickly made the connection between the Haskell Canyon restaurant smash-and-grab burglary call from the previous hour and the four vehicle occupants involved in the traffic stop. The four suspects were subsequently placed into custody and booked for felony burglary and misdemeanor possession of burglary.

“Deputies didn’t have a vehicle description, but it turns out that the contents of the vehicle and the suspects matched of the description of who allegedly conducted the burglary,” said Miller.

Two adults, Jordan McClendon, 19, Evonte Hamilton, 27, of Long Beach were among those arrested early Saturday morning, according to officials. The other two were 17-years-old, and deputies are not permitted to release the name of the two juveniles.

All four suspects were booked at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station at approximately 3:42 a.m. Saturday morning.

“How’s that for teamwork,” said Miller.
