CHP officers reported a Nissan SUV was traveling southbound on Highway 14,  near Newhall Avenue, in the carpool lane, when a motorcycle approached the SUV on the left.

The two motorists engaged in an altercation within the HOV or carpool lane, when the Nissan lost control of his vehicle as a result of the altercation, crashed into the center divider, caught fire, and bounced into the middle of traffic lanes.

At that point, the Nissan then broadsided a Cadillac SUV, causing the SUV to overturn.

The motorcyclists fled the scene, and the driver of the Cadillac was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with moderate injuries, according to California Highway Patrol officers.

Any info or witnesses the public may have, we encourage them to call the CHP Newhall Area office at 661-294-5540.

  1. I’ve read this CHP account several times and it doesn’t appear to match the video. The video clearly shows the Nissan illegally entering the HOV lane across a double yellow line. You can then see the Nissan “brake-checking” the motorcycle. The man who had the dashcam indicated that the Nissan intentionally cut off the motorcycle rider. I assume that the CHP account was an early statement before the video was viewed and witnesses were interviewed.

  2. You can see that the car cut off the motorcycle, when it crossed over into the carpool lane on a double yellow line! That driver should be held responsible for doing that. The biker should have stopped and told his side of the story. Thankfully everyone is okay and not killed! Drivers need to watch for motorcycles as they do have the right to use the carpool lanes.

    • The Nissan lost control because the biker kicked the back of his front wheel, causing the car to steer to left and hit the center divider. This has happened before, common practice by bikers, and the Nissan driver was not trying to hit the biker. He had no control of the steering wheel.

      • The “Biker” did not hit the car hard enough to cause it to swerve. Simple physics. That was all the driver, he intentionally tried to hit the biker with his car. At that speed he swerved too hard and couldn’t keep control of his car.
That said, biker should have backed off and let it go. He is very lucky, usually car verses bike, the bike loses.

      • You are an absolute idiot.. if he had kicked that tire he would be lucky to have a foot. A foot could not over power a vehicles steering. If that were so everytime someone hit a bump they would crash.. You are either joking or a complete IDIOT!

    • Both are totally at fault! Doesn’t matter who cut off who, biker should not have confronted driver and kicked car and driver should not have thrown car into bike. BOTH AT FAULT! Both should be prosecuted!

  3. If NOT for the Motorcycle KICKING the car…nothing would have happened! END OF STORY! Too many times you see this on the road. Motorcyclists EXPECT you move and when you don’t move enough! They KICK or Punch or cut you off. It’s said that DRIVERS should “share” the road..but it’s not the other way around. Cyclists STILL drive FAST in between cars and it’s the ONE reason why there are fatality’s on a daily basis. Also…who ENGAGED the talk..if at all! It could have been a staring thing..is there PROVE of a conversation!? Could it have been that the KICK was UNEXPECTED and the driver was completely surprised and didn’t know what happened so he swerved. But the SPIN is that he tried to hit the cyclist. Why would then the CYCLIST take off! No..this is all due to the KICK on the car. Get the license plate of the biker by ZOOMING in on the video..this can easily be done.

    • Another Idiot.. He had already been attacked by this driver. His foot having no leverage would do absolutly no damage. Had the man not been crossing those dbl dbl yellow lines and e braking and swerving at him he would not have kicked at the car… the 14 fwy drivers are the worst in la county and have no respect for the lines that they are not to cross. I have slammed on my breaks from an ass that did this right in front of me. I said audibly to myself that was a dumb ass move. I had a hispanic male hanging out his window cursing and threatening me and swerving at me.I passed and went on my way and he tried to chase me between vehicles up the yellow lines.. You people need to realize it is LEGAL to split lanes. It is not legal to cross those lines. Wake up.

  4. Regardless of what the driver of the Bissan did the motorcycle rider caused the accident and fled the scene. That is a felony and I hope they find him and put him in jail.

  5. Every action has a reaction .
Had the Nissan not crossed illegally into the carpool lane none of this would have happened .

  6. The 14 has long been under patrolled. I’ve been in peril on it many times. Too scary for the CHP maybe but someone needs to address it. Anyone would have to be pretty gutsy to enforce the law on that stretch between Palmdale and Santa Clarita. Maybe concentrated shifts now and then. I would drive hundreds of miles and pray I could make that dangerous stretch. With all due respect to our patrol officers in any agency.

    • you can be serious, I haven’t driven that stretch of the freeway without seeing a speed trap or someone already pulled over. The CHP is relentless in this stretch…

  7. How is the headline not attempted murder for door kick? Or poor driving skills driver wrecks in attempted murder.

  8. The 14 is out of control both directions. Most of it is road raging commuters from the Antelope Valley. I drive that Freeway everyday & yes it is under patrolled. CHP needs to get on it all the way from Santa Clarita to Palmdale during the commute hours. The Biker triggered that accident & fled regardless of being cut off. He needs to be arrested.

    • You don t know what got him in position to kick that car..I know no rider that would put himself on the left of a car in that lane.I have had drivers try to pass me in my lane when not splitting traffic and traffic speed was 80 mph. I SPED UP AND MOVED TO CENTER OF LANE TO TAKE MY LANE POSITION OBVIOUS AND THE DRIVER TRIED TO PASS ON THE SHOULDER DOING 80 PLUS… wake up.

Lol i was raged on tonight forced to shoulder. Pulled o er and driver attacked me at my motorcycle
.. what up ser him..? He was in a hurry i was slowing for red light. I was in his way…his exact words and his wife was I needed to get the f..k out of thier way…needless to say not a good idea for a midget of a man and his wife to attack a 270 lb man.. lucky i was a nice guy.. only enough defensive force to make them back off and leave.. another driver when i pulled over at liquor store to call sherriffs and get water came back to tell me they were waiting in thier car up the road for me.. ya its the bikers fault lol roflmao

  9. Now that everyone got that off their chest, I would like to address road rage. The way drivers speed on both Fwys. And if you’re not going faster than 75, what do they do? They tailgate. They get so close to you, you can see that piece of food stuck in their teeth. And they try to force out of the way. Don’t say this is drafting, this not NASCAR, this is Road Rage. This happens on Soledad Canyon also. Speed limit says 50. What does that mean? Means you can drive slower than 50 but not over 50. So if I’m going 45, because I have to pee, doesn’t give you the right to tailgate me. Valley people need to learn to slow the funk down. 60 mph in our neighborhoods. Who cares if your favorite porn show starts in 30 minutes. Tape it. Speed Bumps we need speed bumps, all the other valleys have them why not SCV, why? We ain’t smart enough to slow down, when the big ass sign says BUMP AHEAD.
