Jesse Lucatero, 24, of Saugus, was booked on a murder charge in the death of his mother, Maria Acevedo, 57, also of Saugus. Friends and those who knew the victim reported Maria Acevedo was the co-owner of Margaritas Mexican Grill on Valencia Boulevard, which she operated with her husband.
Lucatero was arrested around 5 p.m. Monday after several hours of questioning by Sheriff’s Station deputies, according to officials and arrest records.
Homicide Lt. Joe Mendoza confirmed an interview was underway with the 24-year-old suspect, who is the son of the victim. Sheriff’s officials have not officially released the victim’s name because not all of the next of kin have been notified, officials said.
Deputies received the initial call around 12:50 p.m., according to Sheriff’s Information Bureau officials.
The victim’s husband reportedly found the body inside the home and called 911, but his wife was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
When deputies arrived on scene, they learned the youngest son, who lived at the home, was not present, and through their investigation he became a person of interest.
The victim, who apparently died from a stab wound to the upper torso, was a 56-year-old woman.
The son was later located by SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies, and is currently being questioned at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Lucatero has been arrested in lieu of $2 million bail. He’s due in court

know the family very well a shock and a tragedy!
So Tragic… my wife and I know them well too. Frequent customers – she’s so sweet! We are in shock! Our deepest condolences and prayers for the family.
KHTS, You need to proof read your articles. At the beginning of the article you give the victim’s name but later say it has not yet been released. She also got to be a year younger toward the end of the article. When you report in this fashion it takes away from your credibility.
Headline says UPDATE. Its new information added to the original story… Wow..
We are in shock over this. What a sweet women, having known her and her husband as restaurant customers since their days owning the “Alamo” mexican restaurant on Soledad canyon road (now Maria Bonita). Sounds like Mark Renner likes to find fault in everything !
