A 50-year-old woman reportedly died after chasing a man who was reportedly mentally ill through a Valencia housing complex around 12:30 a.m., according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.

The woman, a resident of the neighborhood on the 26100 block of McBean Parkway, responded to a commotion outside her home.

The man was acting belligerent, according to Sheriff’s Station reports.

“She collapsed, (deputies) performed CPR and Fire Department (officials) transported her to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead,” said Lt. Rob Hahnlein of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and did not determine a homicide had taken place, so the incident will be investigated by Sheriff’s Station officials, Hahnlein said.

The woman’s identification was not released pending next-of-kin notification.

The man was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation, according to Sheriff’s Department officials.

He is not under arrest or a suspect in a crime, according to officials.
