LASD: Driver Accelerated Into Good Samaritan Trying To Prevent DUI

Deputies arrested a Canyon Country man Saturday who allegedly got in his vehicle and struck a good Samaritan who was trying to keep him from driving while intoxicated.

Jacob Rickett, 34, was booked on assault with a deadly weapon charges at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to arrest records.

The victim saw a man showing signs of intoxication getting into a car on the 18200 block of Soledad Canyon Road, said Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman for the station.

When the victim tried to stop the man from leaving in the vehicle, the driver reportedly accelerated.

The victim tried to move out of the way, but the car struck one of his legs, Miller said. The victim later declined medical treatment.

Rickett was arrested just after midnight Saturday morning in connection with the alleged assault.

He remains in custody in lieu of a $30,000 bail, according to arrest records.
