Christopher Cline, 25, of Canyon Country, was arrested at the Valencia library after deputies investigated a report from a the girl who alleged Cline handed her a piece of paper with an Instagram account, and asked her to “call him later.”

Sheriff’s Station officials confirmed the arrest, and that the report was received at 4:40 p.m. Monday, from the library next to the Sheriff’s Station.

The suspect allegedly approached and began talking to the victim, who was using one of the computers at the library, and then handed the girl the little piece of paper, which had an Instagram account and a cellphone number.

A parent of the victim contacted KHTS AM-1220 Tuesday morning, and said deputies learned of multiple complaints regarding the suspect over a five-day period, after her complaint was reported.

The victim was scared and contacted deputies, who were also notified by library officials of the suspicious behavior.

Cline was booked on a misdemeanor charge, 647.6, according to station officials.

Anyone who is aware of a similar report involving a minor should contact the Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121.

  1. A male 26 yr old stranger approaching a 14 yr old female stranger for the purpose of “meeting” later on through social media or a phone call is highly suspicious for wrong doing. And some comments to this scenario are defending the male adult stranger?? Where are their brains and common sense?

  2. Not defending him, but what exactly is the crime? The article just says that it was a misdemeanor. Yes…it is suspicious. Buy suspicion does not a crime make. So now we can arrest people because we have a feeling that they might do something wrong? Next thing you know there will be thought police.

    • Are you kidding? A 25-year-old man handing a 14-year-old girl his phone number. What part of this don’t you think is a crime? What if the girl was not smart enough to report this and call the number? Where do you think this would go?

    • Nothing is wrong with hooking up , the only problem is that she is 14 years old .. He should know better !!

    • Sexual harassment is the crime. I was there and met the same guy…asked me out to dinner that night and told me that I was “hot and sexy”.

    • It common sense what the issue is idiot – it’s not ok for an adult male (18+Yrs old) and in this case HE IS 25 YRS old!!! To pass a note or make any type of communication with this child she is only 14yrs old!! I don’t give a damn if she might look of age or not – it is every adult’s responsibility to confirm age before making communication. Never is it ok to assume. What the hell do you think he was up to?? You think all he wanted was to study with her later? It’s a library. Not a damn bar!!! WTF I can’t even believe I’m trying to explain this to you. Nothing about this situation is right
And He has done this multiple times and it’s not acceptable no matter what. Do you do this????

    • You don’t have child because if you did, you wouldn’t of made that comment. A 26 year old man has nothing to chat about with a female of 14 years old, it’s obvious.

    • This “exactly” is the crime:
      647.6.
      (a) (1) Every person who ANNOYS or molests any child under 18 years of age shall be punished by a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars ($5,000), by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or by both the fine and imprisonment.
      (2) Every person who, motivated by an unnatural or abnormal sexual interest in children, engages in conduct with an adult whom he or she believes to be a child under 18 years of age, which conduct, if directed toward a child under 18 years of age, would be a violation of this section, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars ($5,000), by imprisonment in a county jail for up to one year, or by both that fine and imprisonment.

    • There is already thought police. It’s called hacking telephone calls for suspicious behavior. This is being done as we speak. Whether they want to call it hacking or “monitoring” is a different story.

  3. Is this the same person who works for Newhall School?

  4. Maybe the 25 year old should go to the local sports bar and leave a note with a lady who is…say…21 or older? Unacceptable, regardless if a crime was committed or not. 25 year old men should not be leaving notes with 14 year old girls.

  5. This was convenient for the deputy. He could book the perp into jail right next door to to
    he library

  6. HOLY SMOKES… I re-read this a couple times to make sure I wasn’t missing something. This ‘man’ is older than the girl, illegal yes, but was it obvious to him she was 14? We don’t know from this community warning KHTS so kindly issues to incite our ‘awareness’. We also don’t know if this guy was intending serious malice or just an idiot who thinks a library is a good place to pick up on girls!

I have 2 high school age kids and I see 14 year old girls all the time that to me, look nothing like a 14 year old ‘child’. I also know countless young men, who to me, act NOTHING like a mature adult man!

People… this will NOT be the only time in this girls life she is approached by someone who makes her uncomfortable. I sure hope there is someone in her life that is not freaking out and calling the ‘thought’ police (as a post above references) because she was given an unwanted note that included the guys number.

HOPEFULLY there is a rational person who is guiding her on what she should do in situations like this, that WILL come her way again, but don’t necessarily make her a ‘victim’.

If all men were booked and jailed for making stupid, unwanted comments to women, then all men would be in jail !!!

  7. The same guy went up to me and handed me a paper yesterday at the library as well. While it did feel a little uncomfortable I didn’t think nothing of it. On the paper he was promoting his music from his SoundCloud, his Instagram, twitter I believe, and he had his phone number in case you wanted to call him up to say hi or just to tell him what you thought about his music.

    • You should definitely report your encounter with the police department. This sounds more like a young man trying to promote his music and get a following on his social media accounts. At least that’s the impression I got from your post. Yeah, its always a little weird and uncomfortable when any stranger comes up handing you a flyer. But that doesn’t mean they’re trying to jump in your pants.

Which is horrible if that’s all he was really doing…promoting his music. Now he’s being charged with “annoy or molest a child” charge. Talk about having a horrible, terrible, no good, very bad day!! Your report on record could help put more light on the situation.

On the other hand. If he truly was being inappropriate and it was “sexually motivated”…. and you got that vibe in your encounter. Then your report on record will help get this guy charged with a crime he deserves.
