UPDATE: McGrath Elementary Declared Safe After Report Of Person With A Gun

McGrath Elementary School was on lockdown Tuesday morning due to a report of a man with a gun on or near campus, school officials said.

11:40 a.m. Update: Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials have declared McGrath Elementary School safe after reports of a man with a gun. The school was taken off of lockdown at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Deputies were seen leaving the school by KHTS reporters on scene.

No containment area was set up, officials said, and deputies did not find the suspect.

11:15 a.m. Breaking Story: Units from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are on scene and searching the area for a suspect, school officials said.

The Newhall elementary school is on lockdown until further notice. Sheriff’s officials are currently looking for an adult Hispanic man. No further description of the suspect has been released.

KHTS reporters on scene report at least eight patrol vehicles at the school.

Sheriff’s officials said the elementary school was put on lockdown “as a safety precaution.”

  1. Thankfully here in CA and the SCV, we take people walking around armed seriously.
    All those Second Amendmenteers that feel the need to open carry guns as a fashion accessory during their WALMART visit are just SOL. Another reason to love a progressive state!

  2. Do not understand what SOL means? However, I understand your concerns and I am grateful our community children and faculty and staff are well and unharmed.
