The woman that was found dead in the Santa Clara River Sunday morning in Canyon Country has been identified.

Mercedes Martinez, 71, of Newhall, was identified as the dead body found Sept. 9, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a report of a body being found at approximately 7:45 a.m. Sunday, near Soledad Canyon and Whites Canyon Roads, according to Lt. Doug Mohrhoff, with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“We responded to a rescue call in that area,” Mohrhoff said. “LACoFD came on scene and pronounced the person dead at the scene.”
Martinez was pronounced dead at 8 a.m., Mohrhoff said.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of her death.
