“The initial report was trash on fire,” said Humberto Agurcia, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “When our first unit arrived, they reported that a tree was on fire and it had spread to a small shed.”

The initial call came in at about 8:30 p.m. and first responders cleared from the incident at 10:15 p.m.

“A person lit some bushes or a shed on fire,” said Sgt. Scott Shoemaker with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, “which grew and ended up burning some Edison wires and a power box.”

The total damage from the incident, he said, was over $7,500.

A suspect was taken into custody that night and is being charged with arson.

The case is being investigated by the SCV Sheriff’s Station Arson/Explosives unit.
