Santa Clarita Community Mourns Marine Who Died In Fourth Of July Crash

While Andrew Straughan, 24, was driving in Santa Clarita on the Fourth of July — home from serving in the Marines — his life was taken in car crash.

Straughan’s family is “overwhelmed” with the showing of support from the community, according to Andrew’s father.

“There has been such an outpouring of support from the community,” said Bill Straughan. “We are taking it day-by-day.”

The Bowman High School grad was driving on Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The 24-year-old was declared dead at the scene, according to fire officials.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s officials.

The Straughan family is in the process of planning a candlelight memorial for Andrew, but details have not been set.

  4. So sad. He comes home and gets killed. Scary to drive out there. People don’t pay attention. I have had so many close calls but I survived, so far. So many times a car will just try to come into my lane when I am right there. I honk the horn and they still keep coming over like I’m not even there. I don’t know how I got out of it except I almost had to stop. On top of it they didn’t get in my lane to make a turn they just kept going straight, no reason to even change lanes. Feel so sorry for his family.
