Santa Clarita Crime Reports Are In For Beginning Of May

The crime reports are in for April 28 through May 4 in Canyon Country, Castaic, Gorman, Newhall, Stevenson Ranch and Valencia.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station celebrated 42 years in their Valencia location this week. The SCV has had a county Sheriff’s Station in the area since 1926, since a time when hobos sleeping near the railroad track was the worst they had to deal with.

Crime ReportsDeputies are seeking an unknown suspect who broke into the Oak Tree Gun Club in Newhall on April 26 and stole $1,800 worth of ammunition. Video and pictures of the break in are available.

There were a couple gun scares at local schools on Tuesday.

Sierra Vista Junior High School was put on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after school let out, but no gun was found and deputies would not confirm if the incident was related to a student arrest that morning.

College of the Canyons students received warning texts and emails Tuesday afternoon about a possible man with gun on campus, but it turned out to be a man arguing with his girlfriend, with two airsoft guns in the car, deputies said.

Kevin Garrett Buckler, 35, of Green Valley, was arrested Wednesday evening for taking upskirt photos at the Kohl’s in Valencia. Deputies are now seeking the victim, who might not even have realized that the photos were taken.

Deputies arrested a suspect Thursday, after he’d eluded them for more than 24 hours. He fled from a traffic stop on Wednesday after deputies found about 88 pounds of methamphetamine in his car.

The April 28-May 4 crime reports for the Canyon Country, Castaic, Gorman, Newhall, Stevenson Ranch and Valencia have been released deputies. KHTS AM-1220 publishes crime reports in alphabetical order by community as they are made available.

Canyon Country Crime – east

A residential burglary was reported near the 28000 block of Sarabande Lane. In this incident the suspect broke into a storage closet and stole a crystal vase. No other property was taken from the closet.

A grand theft auto was reported from Jason Drive/Canyon Park Boulevard. A 2007 Toyota Tundra was reported stolen and has not been recovered.

There was an arson reported near the 17000 block of Scherzinger Lane. The victim reported that someone set her doghouse on fire.  The doghouse was completely destroyed.  Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson detectives are investigating this incident.  

Near the 29000 block of Sand Canyon Road, there was a residential burglary reported. The victim’s house is currently under construction and was broken into. The front door to the location was stolen along with ceiling fans.

Canyon Country Crime – west

This past week in Zone 7, the following Part-1 Crimes occurred:

An assault with a deadly weapon occurred near the 19400 block of Stillmore Street. The suspect got into a verbal argument with the victim. A short time later, the suspect retrieved a lighter from his pocket and lit the victim’s hair on fire. The suspect was arrested by deputies. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station detectives.

A spousal assault occurred near the 19300 block of Stillmore Street. The suspect and victim got into a verbal argument which quickly turned physical. The suspect retrieved a leather belt and struck the victim causing injury. The suspect was arrested by deputies. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station detectives.

An attempt residential burglary occurred near the 20400 block of Soledad Canyon Road. The suspect attempted to pry open the side door to the residence. A witness observed the suspect committing the crime and called the police. Deputies arrived and arrested the suspect. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station detectives.

A commercial burglary occurred near the 17600 block of Sierra Highway. The suspect pried open the electrical box door and cut the power to the location. The suspect then attempted to force entry into the location. This incident is currently under investigation by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station detectives.

Castaic/Val Verde Crime

The following crimes were reported in Zone 2, Castaic/Val Verde.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the 5 Freeway of a stolen vehicle out of Santa Paula. The driver, a Santa Paula resident, was arrested and booked at Santa Clarita station for grand theft auto.      

A grand theft was reported at the Castaic Sports Complex off of Castaic Road. The suspects took three cell phones from the bleacher area of the gym while patrons were playing basketball.

A commercial burglary was reported in the 28000 block of Hasley Canyon Road. The back door of the building was found open and several computers, hard drives and cameras were stolen. No signs of forced entry were seen on the door.     

A building at the Lower Lake of Castaic was broken into. Suspects pried open the front door and rummaged through the office. Nothing was reported missing.  

Gorman/Neenach Crime

The following Part 1 crimes were reported in Zone 1 last week:

There were two separate thefts of construction equipment along the east side of the I-5 freeway, where tools and equipment were taken.

There was another theft from a semi truck tractor parked at the truck stop.

As a reminder, due to the recent Station Fire, the Pacific Crest Trail is closed from San Fran Sisquito Canyon Road, going west to Pine Canyon Road. This means that hikers, who will be coming through the area soon, will be walking on the roads to get through the burned out areas. Please be cautious while driving.

Newhall Crime

A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

A vehicle burglary occurred Sunday, May 4, between 4:30 and 5:45 p.m. in the 25000 block of Newhall Avenue. The driver’s side window was shattered and the victim’s purse was stolen.

A vehicle was reported stolen Friday, May 2, between 7 and 8 p.m. from the 21200 block of Bottletree Lane.  There is a known suspect and the vehicle was recovered by the LAPD/Mission Division the next day.

A burglary occurred Wednesday, April 30, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the 21200 block of Ficus Drive. The suspects pried open the patio slider and took two TVs, a laptop, a tablet and three watches.

A tent tarp and some outdoor carpeting were stolen from the 24300 block of Main Street, on Monday, April 28, between 3:43 and 3:50 a.m.

Stevenson Ranch/Westridge Crime

Last week, the following Part 1 crime occurred in Zone 3 Stevenson Ranch:

A shoplift/burglary occurred near the 25400 block of The Old Road. Two male juveniles were detained by loss prevention personnel after they attempted to walk out of the location, failing to pay for items they concealed in their pants. The juveniles were subsequently detained by responding deputies and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station where they were booked, cited and released pending a future court date.

Valencia Crime

During the past week, the criminal incidents reported in Valencia included residential burglary, vehicle burglary, grand theft, and numerous shoplifting from businesses.

A residential burglary occurred at the 27100 block of Baxard Place between 12 and 2 p.m. The victim reported the rear sliding glass door had been shattered by an unknown object. Items stolen were a PlayStation, jewelry and passport from various areas of the house.

Two vehicle burglaries occurred in parking lots at various locations. One vehicle burglary occurred at the 27600 block of Dickason Drive between the hours 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. The victim reported her driver’s side window had been smashed by an unknown object. Items stolen were a purse containing wallet and miscellaneous keys which were left in the backseat. A second vehicle burglary occurred at a parking structure located at 24200 block of Valencia Boulevard at 12:20 p.m. The victim left a book pack containing school books in the backseat of the vehicle. There was no forced entry or damaged made to the vehicle.

Two grand thefts of catalytic converters off Honda Element vehicles occurred at the parking lots located at Avenue Stanford and Technology Drive between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. No witnesses/suspects were located. The investigation is currently ongoing.
